Moving Guide

Moving to Spain from the UK: Complete Guide

A practical, plain-English guide to planning your move from the UK to Spain.

Where to start

Moving to Spain is a significant project, but it becomes manageable when you break it into stages. The first step is understanding roughly what you're taking and when you need to be there — those two answers shape almost every other decision.

Once you have a rough volume and a target date, request a removals quote. A survey — in person or by video — lets us assess the volume, access and any special requirements, and give you a written estimate.

Full load or part load

A dedicated full load means a vehicle reserved just for your consignment. It's faster and more predictable, and usually the right choice for a complete house move.

A part load (groupage) means your belongings share space with other consignments on the same route. You pay for the space you use, and delivery runs to a schedule — typically within one to two weeks. It suits smaller moves and flexible dates.

Timing your move

Summer is the busiest period for UK ↔ Spain removals, so booking earlier gives you more choice on dates. If your dates are flexible, a part load outside the peak can be noticeably better value.

Try to align your UK collection with your Spanish completion where possible. If the dates don't line up, storage on either side of the channel bridges the gap.

Packing for an international move

An international journey is harder on belongings than a local move. Furniture should be wrapped in protective blankets, fragile items packed with appropriate materials, and boxes labelled by room.

You can have us pack everything, pack just the fragile and awkward items, or pack your own boxes and have us handle the furniture. We can also supply boxes and materials.

Documentation and customs

Since the UK left the EU, moving belongings to Spain involves customs considerations that didn't apply before. The exact requirements depend on your circumstances and residency status.

We provide plain-English guidance on the documentation typically associated with an international move. For legal, customs and residency matters, we recommend checking with the relevant authorities or a qualified adviser.

On collection day

Our crew arrives, protects your property (floors, doorframes), wraps furniture, loads your belongings and inventories the consignment. You'll receive clear information about the delivery window and how to reach the team.

For a full load, delivery usually follows within a few days. For a part load, we'll give you a realistic window based on the next scheduled run along your route.
